Welcome to Idaho Wine Scene

69 Wineries

Over 1500 Acres of Vineyards

Welcome to Idaho’s guide to the wine scene. Our goal at IdahoWineScene.com is to be your leader for the Idahoan wine consumer and keep you updated with the latest news on the industry.

Some of our plans are to visit wineries in Idaho, talk with winery owners, tour wine tasting rooms and taste new wines, visit some of the vineyards that are used for events, write about our travels, and last but not least is to have a lot of fun!

The oenophiles of the Idaho Wine Scene love, live, and breathe Idaho and its great-tasting wine.

The Snake River winds its way west across southern Idaho, creating a micro-climate that has suitability for grape growing and access to irrigation water, despite its higher elevation and arid landscape and because of this, the majority of Idaho’s wineries are scattered throughout Idaho’s Snake River Valley. The views you will see as you make this journey along the Snake River are breathtaking.

The Eagle Foothills AVA is part of the Snake River Valley AVA. The Eagle foothills soil, elevation, and location to the Boise River make it a perfect area to grow amazing wine grapes.  Eagle has rolling hills of vineyards and these hard-working winemakers are creating some of the best wines in Idaho.

There is also the Lewis Clark Valley AVA which is located in Northern Idaho and stretches through Orofino to Clarkston across the Washington border.  The area has more than 80 acres of vineyards within 479 square miles.

Idaho Wine Grapes

Idaho’s vineyard elevations are higher than most others at over 3000 ft above sea level in the Northwest, and soils are comprised primarily of volcanic ash. Idaho has some long and warm daylight hours during the grape growing season along with cool summer evenings, and you have the perfect combination of factors that contributes to producing great quality wine grapes with concentrated fruit flavors and naturally high acidities. This is the foundation of Idaho’s wine industry.

Tasting Rooms

One of the biggest expansions of tasting rooms we have seen and visited has been in Garden City on Chinden Blvd. Most of the side streets between the Riverside Hotel and Expo Idaho on the side of the river have wine and beer tasting rooms.  So if you are in the Boise area, this is a great way to spend a weekend sipping wine and walking the Greenbelt.
